The bank reported profit and revenue below the market expectation as whipsawing markets late last year took a toll on the company’s two biggest businesses. Morgan Stanley generated EPS of 80 cents for the fourth quarter. The EPS was below the consensus estimates of 89 cents. Companywide revenue fell 10% to $8.55 billion-below the market expectation of $9.3 billion.
The company posted the weakest fixed-income trading results of its peers, falling 30% to $564 million, compared with the median forecast of $806 million.
